If you are wondering why the Internet is so slow in our country(Philippines) since the earthquake, I’m here to tell you why. Whatever ISP(PLDT, Sky, Digitel, Etc.)  you are using, I’m 100% sure that your ISP is affected and now is experiencing some slow download speed. In my experience right now, my download speed from download sites are a measly 8-10kb/s and my download speed on highly seeded torrents is at maximum 99kb/s. This is down from 355kb/s download speed that I usually get. If you do a speedtest, it will tell you that your Internet speed is normal but they didn’t tell you that there is a lot of ping and delay right now that’s why downloading continuous stream of data is slow.

The reason behind this, if it isn’t so obvious already, is the Japan earthquake that happened recently. The communication line that we use is the APCN2 that runs through Batangas and Nasugbo (which is distributed to the whole country) and is connected with the rest of Asia and the World. We are using this line because it is more optimized for our country. Anyway, It was damaged greatly and right now, all our communication are  going to the AAG Cable which is connected to the US. It is the backup communication line if the APCN2 were to go down, obviously it is not that powerful as the APCN2, as it has a smaller bandwidth that is why all the ISP are affected.

Right now, there is no time table when all communication will be back to normal, but here is a tip, Try downloading at exactly 3AM as the bandwidth opens up and the download speed are back to normal.

That’s all for now

Peace out!!
