Software Review – Webroot Antivirus with SpySweeper
One thing I hate are viruses that turn your desktop into a POP UP generating machine. So to counter this threat, you will need a good antivirus to counter these viruses. RANT COMING, so guys, please invest on a good antivirus once a year, for only 2-3k pesos, the price is really worth it for all the troubleshooting hours you will save. And to all those who are using AVIRA or AVG or any free antivirus there, are you dumb or what?!!? don’t you get it, the antivirus you’re using is free, so those hackers has access on it and they can easily manipulate their virus to bypass the security of your antivirus. So c’mon people, spend your money on a good antivirus and stop wasting your money on unnecessary things.
I have been using this antivirus for 3 months and this one of the best antivirus i have used in a very long time. I have used premiere antivirus such as Mcafee, Norton, Kaspersky, Eset Nod32 and Bitdefender. So how is Webroot Antivirus with SpySweeper much better than all of the antivirus mentioned above: First, its better than Mcafee and Norton because its start up time is almost 1 to 2 seconds only compared to the slow start up time of Mcafee and Norton which is around 30-60 seconds. It is better than Kaspersky and Nod32 because the subscription fee of Webroot is a lot cheaper while the features and security is better than those two. I was using Bitdefender for the last 3 years but because of Bitdefender 2010’s buggy security and DLL files which caused me losing the internet connection every hour or so and the only thing to do to restore my connection is to restart the antivirus which is very hard to do by the way, and eventually restarting the PC will be the only choice. I was really turned off by that and upon researching I found out that Webroot has their own antivirus (already a fan of their Spysweeper and Window Washer since 2004)and that’s how i end up using Webroot Antivirus with SpySweeper and i might say, its a lot better than Bitdefender and also it has a fast response to security threats. If you want to test your Antivirus security, try this code:
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
Copy and paste on a notepad and save it as *.exe where * is any name you want, don’t worry, it is only a test virus and completely safe; to know that your antivirus is functioning and if your antivirus is any good, it should immediately detect the virus once you press the save button.
Like everything else, Webroot isn’t perfect but those cons are more of a user preference rather than imperfection with the software. The thing i don’t like with Webroot is how nosy the warning messaging are, to the point that the warning message can easily minimize your game that you are playing which is kinda irrating but i recently learned that you can turn off those warning message off through the settings. Another thing that i feel missing is the Antiphising, i know that the latest browsers have their own AntiPhising features already but it doesn’t hurt to have a backup. And lastly, one thing i think that the developers should add in the future is security on the IM window, Bitdefender has this feature and its a very cool feature, it can stop bogus links, i really miss that and i hope they add that in the future. But overall, this is the best antivirus i have used in a long time.
